Scribe Video Center

Scribe Video Center was founded in 1982 as a place where emerging and experienced media artists could gain access to the tools and knowledge of video making and work together in a supportive environment.  Scribe provides training in all aspects of film, video, and audio production.  Additionally, classes in computer-based interactive media are offered to individuals and community organizations.  Emerging and mid-level video makers are challenged to put their skills to the test as a means of self-expression and community support.

Inspired by the photographic essay, photographer/filmmaker Laurence Salzmann will present his model for filmmaking, using examples from his previous projects. Of interest to both filmmakers and photographers, Salzmann’s approach borrows methods from his previous study with legendary filmmakers Tim Asch, John Marshall and folklorist Alan Lomax, to tell visually stunning and compelling narratives from often-overlooked communities.
